lenses.
Even if you believe that you have perfect vision, an annual
eye examination is just as important as a routine physical. Your eye
examination consists of a number of tests not only to evaluate the prescription
also to assess the health of your eyes. Annual eye
exams help to prevent vision disorders and to potentially detect other diseases
such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Dr Ben-Nissan can be depended upon to
provide you with personal attention while determining an excellent prescription
for eyeglasses or contact lenses. Using the latest technology and
state-of-the-art testing instruments, Dr Ben-Nissan provides comprehensive exams for
vision and eye health that include cataract and glaucoma screenings, as well as
tests of visual function.
Medical History: Since the eyes are a part of the
body, they can be affected by seemingly unrelated health conditions. We begin
the eye examination by asking you detailed questions about your general health,
any medical conditions and prescription or non-prescription medication usage.
Glaucoma Testing: This test is included in all adult
examinations and in children's where necessary. Glaucoma is a disease that
causes blindness if left untreated. It occurs if the fluid pressure at the front
of the eye is too high for the optic nerve at the back of the eye. In most
cases, the patient is unaware of the disease until there is substantial vision
loss. Testing is done through "tonometry"-measuring the pressure inside your
eye, examination of the optic nerve through dilated pupils and visual field
testing.
Your
Eye Health: Vision is our most precious sense and not something to be
taken for granted. You have entrusted us with the responsibility of caring for
your eyes, a responsibility that we take very seriously. By ensuring that you
visit our doctors on a regular basis, as prescribed, we will ensure that you are
provided with the highest quality of eye care possible.
Medications: Please bring a list of your
prescribed medications with you on your first visit to our office. If it is
easier for you, bring the actual medications. Our doctors will want to review
all medications. When you need to refill your ophthalmic prescriptions, please
notify your pharmacist as early in the day as possible. He or she will contact
our office for the appropriate authorization.
Insurance & Fees: We participate with most vision service plans.
The fees are based on a combination of the level of skill and training required
for the service provided, the time involved with direct patient contact, and
indirect time associated with review of laboratory data, prior medical records
and reporting of findings to your referring doctor. The office staff will be
happy to discuss fees with you and fully explain billing and reimbursement
procedures.
